Who contacted us?
JLogistics is a subsidiary of Jersey Post, servicing the mail-order
fulfilment industry in Jersey.
This sector has seen massive growth over the last five years, due to
the advantages of Jersey as an offshore jurisdiction. It now provides
Jersey Post with one of its primary profit centres.
When?
Having seen our track record with the successful Apollo project created for
Jersey Post's Mail Services subsidiary, JLogistics contacted us in 2007 to
provide a replacement (for their aging) system.
Analysis started in 2008 and the product went live on 1st January 2009.
What was the problem exactly?
The ‘fulfilment’ industry is a high volume, low margin business in extremis.
Customers declare mail volumes at different tariffs via dockets. JLogistics
must ensure that the customers’ declarations are accurate, as well as providing
the staff and procedures to process that mail to deadlines, ready for onward
carriage to UK and international destinations.
The volume of traffic was rising so fast that existing systems were no longer
efficient enough to avoid errors or to extend to new business. Meanwhile, the
time taken to collate data for reporting was increasing.
Cronus was commissioned to create the "Brama" product to automate core operational
aspects of the business in a way extensible to new clients and new service offerings,
at the same time providing accurate and timely reporting.
Benefits
- Reduction in re-keying
- Reduction of data duplication
- Reduction on key staff dependency
- System extensibility
- Improved auditing
- Increased efficiency
- Increased accuracy
- Enforcement of Procedures
- Real-time reporting
Why did they like it so much?
Our partnering approach meant we worked closely with the JLogistics team to fully
understand their business and define meaningful requirements. Interim specifications
and demonstrations monitored fitness for purpose throughout.
Our ability to provide a close fit to their needs provided a clear return on their
investment almost immediately.
Time savings and improvements in information management allowed JLogistics to keep
up with market growth and leverage data more effectively.
