Who contacted us?
Jersey Post is an important part of life in Jersey. They provide an essential postal service
to all businesses and households and are part of the global postal network.
Their vision is to be the chosen provider of customers' worldwide distribution and communications
solutions embracing new and emerging technologies.
When?
Upon commercialisation on 1st July 2006 Jersey Post’s executive team realised that predicting
revenue streams and their associated cost were paramount to guiding the business forward.
What was the problem exactly?
Like most logistics companies Jersey Post faces many challenges as it is historically a
high volume, low margin business.
The operational side of the business requires a solution that enables Jersey Post to focus
commercially in a number of complex competitive markets while allowing the stringent requirement of
a regulator (JCRA) to be met for the provision of a daily, all island delivery and collection service.
Cronus was commissioned to create the “Apollo” project with the remit for it to become Jersey Post’s
core system which would monitor and maintain all operational aspects of the business.
How did we help?
- Providing volume and effort information for management to accurately model their Activity Based Costing process and therefore justify the cost of each of their products.
- Real-time tracking of mail volumes and workflow throughout the organisation and provide historical data modelling capabilities.
- Produce real-time trend analysis, forecast activity requirements, resources placement and actively monitor departmental budgets.
- Electronically integrate key line of business equipment data with Apollo for reporting and analysis.
- Integrate Business Services revenues and cost into the financial system.
- Automate key business services and their associated processes into Apollo and away from key employee dependencies.
- Estimate cost, margin and justify increases to the JCRA within its legal mandate to provide delivery and collection of mail in Jersey.
- Sample, estimate and gauge profitability of agreements with key logistics companies in other jurisdictions.
In addition to the above Cronus has provided strategic consultancy on the long term rationalisation of line of business.
Benefits
- Increased efficiency.
- Increased profitability.
- Improved transaction times.
- Improved team communication/coordination.
- Reduction of operational risk.
- Reduction of data duplication.
- Rationalisation of business process.
- Reduction on key staff dependencies.
- Provides critical key performance indicators for resourcing management, costing and strategic decision making.
Why did they like it so much?
With our partnering approach we engaged the Jersey Post team to fully define and document their
requirements. Working in conjunction with the team allowed us to produce Apollo over a number of
phases adding functionality as the scope has grown and diversified.
In our business trust between ourselves and our clients is paramount as this allows us begin to
understand their requirement from end to end. Listen to our clients and really taking the time to
understand their business and requirements affords us the ability to talk to them at many different
level which encompass their strategic, tactical and operational processes.
Testimonial
"The delivered system provides us with the capability to respond very quickly to the changing business
environment. The flexibility designed into the software by Cronus from the very outset has ensured that
the systems can be configured to suit the business without having extensive programming capability in
our own staff."
